Indicators of a close person has eating disorder

How do you know if someone close to you has an eating disorder? Your own sensitivity and careful observations can help you to recognize the signs of the illness. Consider each of the following characteristics and see whether they are present in someone close to you.

  1. Unexplained weight loss
  2. Feeling fat in spite of being thin
  3. Denial of hunger
  4. Development of food rituals, such as cutting up food a certain way
  5. Excessive preoccupation with dieting, weight and shape
  6. Has lost her menses
  7. Feeling cold when others do not
  8. Excessive exercise
  9. Reluctant to eat in front of others
  10. Weighs frequently
